How You Can Disinfect A Wound

When a person makes a wound, it is important to disinfect it to achieve healing and avoid complications, such as an infection, for example. In other words, a good approach from the first moment of the accident will be the key to the success of the treatment.

The skin of living beings is like a barrier that prevents the passage of viruses and other harmful agents. However, if the wound is damaged or injured, bacteria can enter the wound, reproduce in or around it, and make the situation worse. As a consequence, an infection can occur.

Just as it is important to take care of the skin day by day and take the necessary preventive measures to avoid accidents, it is essential to know how to approach an injury. Let’s see the step by step below.

Steps to disinfect a wound

  • Before touching the wound and beginning its healing, you should wash your hands very well with soap and water.
  • Boil a little water to sterilize all the necessary implements for healing (tweezers, scissors, etc).
  • Wear latex gloves to avoid direct contact. If you don’t, you can get an infection.

  • If the wound is not very deep, simply rinse it with antibacterial soap and water. Otherwise, you must use another type of solution that is disinfectant, such as hydrogen peroxide and chlorhexidine.
  • If you don’t have a sanitizing solution on hand, you can easily make it. You just have to boil a little water and add a pinch of salt. Alcohol and iodine can only be used around the wound to clean it and nothing else.  If you pour them into the open wound, you may damage the tissues and interfere with healing.
  • The affected area is likely too contaminated with debris or other things. Then you must use tweezers to remove them and then clean the area very well.
  • After the infected area is completely clean, you can apply any anti-inflammatory, disinfectant, or antiseptic. This will dry out the area and help regenerate damaged tissue. If not, the wound will take longer to heal.

  • Although it is much better to let wounds heal outdoors, some of them need to be protected. Use for this purpose a gauze or any soft and hypoallergenic textile that protects the area. Change the dressing every day so you can check, each time, if the wound needs more moisture or needs to be dry. In this way you will guarantee the total care of your skin and your body.
  • Finally, it is worth noting the regenerative effects of aloe vera. Used on a well-cleaned and disinfected wound, aloe vera can accelerate the healing processes of wounds and burns.
