Dreamcatcher history

Dreamcatchers emerged in the 1960s as part of Native American culture (particularly the Ojibwa). They believed that these small handmade objects were capable of filtering people’s dreams, leaving only the positive ones and trapping nightmares in their nets. These vanished the next day with the first rays of the sun.

Later turned into a decorative object, many of us long to have these dream catchers in the home. Usually a willow wood hoop is made, a net is woven inside and adorned with colored feathers. Today we invite you to make them with your own hands.

    What I need?

    • A willow branch or any other strong and flexible branch
    • Colourful feathers
    • Plush flowers
    • Waxed embroidery thread

    How to do it?

    • In this case we are only going to need the branch of a tree (if it is willow, much better). With the help of the threads we will reinforce it, creating that crescent that you see in the upper image. Remember that you can consult any tutorial or video where they teach how to make these fabrics with thread.
    • Once the net is created and reinforced, place the feathers in the lower area and the plush flowers to one side. If we combine the colors well  we can achieve a spectacular dreamcatcher.
